Animal Farm

Recently I have begun reading Orwell's classic novel, Animal Farm.

The story is about a farm where the tyrant owners are overthrown and kicked out by the animals. These animals then take it upon themselves to run the farm by themselves, and never to have interactions with humans again. One of the main ideas brought up in the book is that absolute power corrupts absolutely. For example, when the animals take over the farm, the pigs, being the smartest of the animals, naturally assume leadership of the farm. But, over time, you can see the pigs slowly taking advantage of that power through things like taking extra food for themselves, doing less work than the others animals, sleeping in beds, etc. So, when then other animals begin to question this corruption, the pigs change the "animal laws" that were put in place from the moment they took over to excuse themselves. This idea of corruption of leaders due to power is what makes this book a classic though. It is an idea that was relevant when it was written, is relevant today, and will always be relevant.
